Hand-selected for use from the blue slate quarry in the southern Lake District fells, our natural stone stepping stones are unique in character, made from one of the most hard wearing British stones, and will add definition to your garden project.

Showcasing depth, shape, and character; our South Lakeland blue slate stepping stones are from the Kirkby in Furness quarry in Cumbria and emanate slate from the Silurian period, which is over 450 million years old.

The stone displays a weathered, mid to dark blue appearance when wet and a more pale blue appearance when dry, with some natural brown shades interspersed. It is known for its strength, durability and colour fastness.

Most other stepping stones sold in the UK are made from Indian sandstone or concrete and display little character and will discolour quickly.

We recommend each piece of slate is washed before use to ensure the true colour of the stone shows through. The most desired side of the stone for regular foot traffic should be chosen on applying the stepping stones to your garden.

All pieces of stone vary from around 400-700mm in length and range in thickness of between 50-135mm.

It is also important to note that this rockery slate has a lower carbon footprint than most other natural materials of its type because it is delivered directly to you from the quarry.
