Stone & Surfaces Featured On Love Your Garden

At Stone & Surfaces Direct, we are proud to share that we had the privilege of being featured in a recent episode of ITV 1’s ‘Love Your Garden’ with Alan Titchmarsh.

In the episode ‘Wildlife in West Bromwich’, our beautiful rockery products were featured as Alan and the team carried out the creation of a wildlife wonderland for local hero fundraiser and wildlife enthusiast Pete Hill from West Bromwich in memory of his father.

At a time when our gardens have never been more important to us, to spend time with family and friends, rejuvenate our mental and physical health, and reconnect us with nature; it is becoming more of a present desire to have a beautiful outdoor space.

Even the most challenging outdoor areas can be transformed into a dream oasis with the right garden landscaping design and high-quality products.

Entrusting author Frances Tophill and horticulturalist David Domoney, Alan is determined to transform Pete’s garden to take it from disaster to dazzling. Water, flowers, sunshine, and shade are the four elements required to form a wildlife paradise.

A large pond is the focal point of Pete’s garden, of which it is preferred that they remain intact to pay tribute to his father’s legacy.

Alan recruits expert help to reduce the size of the pond, install a waterfall decorated with our high-quality Lakeland slate rockery, build a pub garden, and interject plenty of colour with a surrounding suburban garden that is amphibian-friendly for Pete to enjoy nature and remember his Dad.

To rebuild the edge of the pond once reduced in size and construct the waterfall feature, our stunning Lakeland slate mixed random weathered walling was used in the episode to give the feel of traditional stone walling and provide a natural appearance.

This practical and beautiful slate is sourced from the southern Lake District fells and is metamorphic in origin (being over 450 million years old). Renowned for its strength, durability and colour fastness, it is perfect for creating rockeries and features around the garden.

What’s more, the geological composition of the slate means that it is unlikely to change the pH levels of ponds and soil and is fish-friendly, which makes it perfect for creating the water feature in Pete’s new garden.

The random sized Lakeland stone is specially selected and often used to create the traditional wall facades seen on properties across the Lake District and Cumbria. This unique and beautiful natural stone product is only available from Stone and Surfaces Direct and is available in various sizes, from 200mm to 400mm in length, giving the freedom to create completely bespoke garden features to suit individual tastes.
