White rock salt is a highly effective solution for winter gritting, helping to keep high-traffic areas safe by preventing the build-up of snow and ice. It’s particularly suited to areas where cleanliness is a priority, as it leaves minimal residue that could be tracked indoors.
While brown rock salt remains the more cost-effective option for large-scale public spaces, white rock salt is often preferred for entrances, steps, footpaths, and other areas where appearance and cleanliness matter.
Our white rock salt meets BS 3247, the recognised British Standard for de-icing salt. It’s the same quality product used by councils, highways authorities, and commercial winter maintenance teams across the UK.
Treated with an anti-caking agent, our salt remains free-flowing and easy to spread, even after long-term storage. It’s compatible with all common salt spreaders and suitable for both residential and commercial use.
White rock salt is more refined than its brown counterpart. It undergoes additional processing to remove natural impurities such as clay and insoluble minerals. This results in a brighter, cleaner appearance and a purer form of salt, while maintaining the same ice-melting capabilities.
Although both brown and white salt work in the same way, by lowering the freezing point of water, brown rock salt is typically more budget-friendly due to local sourcing. That said, white rock salt remains the preferred choice where visual impact and cleanliness are key.
