Thank you stoneandsurfaces.co.uk very quick response to our order your driver on the day was very helpful at placing pallet where needed….will look forward to placing a further order if needed
Great product, a lot of larger stones. If you're going to be walking on these on a regular basis you might want to get some smaller slate to make some paths. Lovely green colour with a few red and some very unusual pieces.
Thank you for you comments. When the chippings and paddle stones are processed they go through a series of sieves that are set at the size tolerance. The means that if the tolerance is 50mm the width allowed through will be 50mm, but you will get some pieces longer than the 50mm gauge on the length dimension of the aggregate processed. This is typical for this type of slate material. We do however regularly carry out quality tests on the processed material before dispatch to ensure it is within the specification listed.
Prompt, friendly delivery driver. Slate was perfect colour, but had far too much delivered
Excellent service and product exactly as described. Arrived on the day arranged. Good mix of sizes of stones with enough larger ones. Overall excellent. Thank you
This is one of the best companies I have had the pleasure of dealing with the staff I dealt with were very efficient very help-full. And delivered very fast and also friendly .
Love the green stones . Just ordered another bulk bag !
My front garden now turns heads. That paddlestone look so much better than bark chippings between the heathers. And as a final touch I put small cairns of basalt like Japanese style islands randomly random. These paddlestone is top quality. No waste material at all. I'd like to show you a picture but the upload failed
Elterwater in the hills of Langdale Valley in the heart of the Lake District.
This stone has a light green colour that brightens when wet and has the occasional natural red tones and white spa flecks.
Lakeland green slate is one of the hardest, most durable slates in the world as it is a metamorphic volcanic stone from the Ordovician period formed 450-500 million years ago.
The Lakeland green paddlestones are angular and relatively flat in shape and larger in size than 40mm slate chippings, ranging typically between 50 and 125mm in size. This makes the green slate paddlestones ideal for covering pond liners or as a grading element in rockeries.
The geological composition of Lakeland green slate paddlestones means they are unlikely to change the PH levels of ponds or soil and are therefore suitable for planting borders as well as alpine and rockery gardens, and a great choice for ponds and water features as it is fish friendly (wash before use).
The attached information includes a quality certificate which will show the consistency of the aggregates size grading. Many aggregate suppliers do not provide this or carryout these controls which means the aggregate can have significant proportions of very small pieces to dust. In addition the material performance report provides the geological composition of the aggregate, and its physical and chemical properties.
Based at Barrow In Furness, Cumbria, Burlington Aggregates are experts in the extraction and processing of natural slate, limestone and sand aggregates from five Lake District quarries.
Our Westmorland Green slate aggregate is green in colour and in its environmental credentials, as it is processed from the quarry overburden and offcuts derived from the production of the roofing slate used on iconic historical buildings such as Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge, in London.
The quarry is situated at the foot of the Langdale valley, Nr Coniston, Cumbria, where slate has been extracted since the middle of the nineteenth century. Elterwater is pale green in colour and is a metamorphic volcanic stone from the Ordovician period, and thus formed 450-500 million years ago. The geology of the rock means it is one of the most durable and hard-wearing natural stones available and as a result ideal for use in a wide range of applications such as roofs, paving, walls, and as an aggregate for driveways and various areas around a house or building.
