The South Lakeland Blue paddlestones are from the Kirkby in Furness quarry in the southern Lake District fells in Cumbria. The stone has a mid to dark blue appearance when wet and a pale blue/grey appearance when dry with some occasional natural brown flecks of colour.

The slate emanates from the Silurian period and is over 450million years old.

This British slate is renowned for its strength, durability and colour fastness.

The shape is angular and relatively flat and larger in size than 40mm slate chippings, ranging typically between 50 and 125mm in size, making blue slate paddlestones ideal for using to cover pond liners or as a grading element in rockeries and planting beds.

Lake District slate's geological composition means they are unlikely to change the PH levels of ponds or soil and are therefore suitable for planting borders and a great choice for ponds and water features as it is fish friendly (wash before use).

Excellent service. Had loads of questions which were all answered by sales team and or manager who called back to confirm details. Order was simple online with accurate calculator for space to fill with slate chippings and paddlestones on top. Delivery partner was very helpful, great communication about date of delivery and timing on the day to awkward location with only on street parking. Ideal all round service at every stage.

Very pleased with ordering process and quality of product on delivery, but very disappointed that the company do not take any responsibility for return of the delivery pallets.

I have tried the local transport company, Cheetah Couriers, who made the delivery but they will not assist. I have also tried contacting CHEP, the company who own the pallets, without any success.

I am now stuck with the pallets in my front garden. They are too big and too heavy for me to be able to get them into my car to take to the local recycling centre.

Our Reply

Thank you for your comments. All our aggregate products  are supplied direct from then quarry and we use a third party transport provider [ Pallet Track} to collect and deliver all orders. The collection of pallets would [if we were able to provide this service through a local source] incur an additional cost. We do include on all our receipts mailed with the orders to customers  information for use including details about how the delivery will be made and that customers are responsible for the disposal of pallets and packaging. We will however continue to look at the feasibility pf providing a service at an additional cost. Many thanks

Stones look great and are large. Lots of comments on how good they look from passers by. Delivery was on time and driver was really helpful and friendly.

Really excellent service and came in a wire container on a pallet. The stones are great and they will complement the larger slate stones I have also ordered. Will be used in a rockery and pond surround.

Cheapest I could find and did what was required, although I could have done with more of the larger paddlestones.

The slate is of a very high quality and looks fantastic now it’s been washed down. The communication was brilliant when we had issues with the crappy 3rd party logistics provider that was used to deliver the product. I would totally recommend this company and would not hesitate to use them again myself.

This is my second order of paddlestone. Great product and service. I'm now using it in the back garden for building a Japanese garden and highlighting some plants and walkways. I realise now that hard landscaping is a forgotten aspect of the garden as it can transform the look of a garden and modernise it.

A lovely product at a great price.  Delivered on time as arranged with the courier. Many thanks

The attached information includes a quality certificate which will show the consistency of the aggregates size grading. Many aggregate suppliers do not provide this or carryout these controls which means the aggregate can have significant proportions of very small pieces to dust. In addition the material performance report provides the geological composition of the aggregate, and its physical and chemical properties.

Burlington Aggregates

Elterwater Quarry

Our Westmorland Green slate aggregate is green in colour and in its environmental credentials, as it is processed from the quarry overburden and offcuts derived from the production of the roofing slate used on iconic historical buildings such as Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge, in London.

Elterwater Quarry

Location

The quarry is situated at the foot of the Langdale valley, Nr Coniston, Cumbria, where slate has been extracted since the middle of the nineteenth century. Elterwater is pale green in colour and is a metamorphic volcanic stone from the Ordovician period, and thus formed 450-500 million years ago. The geology of the rock means it is one of the most durable and hard-wearing natural stones available and as a result ideal for use in a wide range of applications such as roofs, paving, walls, and as an aggregate for driveways and various areas around a house or building.
